WHY WE RACE

our inspiration:

hope fuller

The Illinois chapter of The Cure Starts Now was formed in honor of Hope Alizah Kimlee Fuller. Hope was born on June 26, 1997 outside of Seoul in South Korea where she lived until she came home to her forever family in January of 1998. Hope was everything a mother, father, and brother could ask for in a daughter and sister. She was beautiful inside and out. Hope was a talented muscian and actress and was proud to be a 'Drama Queen'. She was kind and caring, stubborn and sassy, generous and had a smile that you could not overlook.

On July 29, 2009 she was diagnosed with DIPG, a rare and deadly brain cancer. Hope was a fighter. She took her treatments in stride and she never gave up hope. Hope's motto after diagnosis was "When Life Gives You Lemons, Make Lemonade!" That is just what we did. Hope helped us to fill the 224 days she lived with DIPG with the most delicious lemonade you can imagine. Hope left for heaven on March 10, 2010. She took a piece of us with her that will never be replaced.

Our mission in starting the Illinois Chapter of the Cure Starts Now is to honor HOPE's memory and all our children who are currently battling or who have earned their wings as a result of brain cancer. We HOPE that by raising awareness, we will increase your interest in knowing more about these deadly yet unknown cancers. In sparking your interest we HOPE it creates in your hearts a desire to do something. We HOPE you will take action by joining us in our support of research designed to support better treatments and ultimately a cure which will save the lives of our children.

DIPG is a type of brain cancer which has had no improvements in treatments, much less a cure, in over 30 years. The many improvements in the treatment of breast cancer started with awareness and a pink ribbon. Awareness for pediatric brain cancer starts with a little HOPE and a gray ribbon!

The Cure Starts Now Cancer Research Foundation (501c3 Federal Non-Profit) is one of the only cancer foundations dedicated to a “homerun” cure for all cancers, starting first with one of the most deadly and difficult cancers: pediatric brain cancer. Many experts believe that the lessons we learn from fighting pediatric brain cancer may in fact provide us the critical first step in winning the battle against all forms of cancer, both pediatric and adult.

The Cure Starts Now represents a revolutionary new strategy in cancer research; one that fights cancer not according to numbers but instead based on knowledge and research. And isn’t that the way we’ll ultimately win the battle?

The Cure Starts Now’s mission is one that knows no boundaries and stops at no borders. It is an international effort of families, friends, businesses and even strangers, united in the desire to cure cancer, one child at a time. And it all started with one child, but today the inspiration is carried with us all.

about the cure starts now
