The Hyde Park Blast was co-founded by Cheryl Neiheisel and Chad Sims, both Hyde Park residents, as a way for the community to have fun, be active and raise money for a good cause – the fight against cancer.

Since 2001, more than $600,000 has been donated to Cincinnati cancer charities including The Cure Starts Now. Hyde Park Blast is also a Best of the East winner.

Registration

4 Mile Run/Walk

Run or walk the 4-mile race - a scenic and challenging loop that starts just west of Hyde Park Square, winds through historic Hyde Park, and ends in the Square.

Registration for the 4-mile run/walk race can be made online or day of the event. Registrations made after June 14 are not guaranteed shirt size. T-shirts are only guaranteed if you pick them up at packet pick up.

$40 early bird price until April 1st

Kids Fun Run

Join us as we cheer on your Blast kid to cross the finish line. Prior to 9 AM, age groups will be split up to ensure a fun and safe event for each competitor. Please look for the sign with the appropriate age group of your child.

Race day kids run registration is $20. Every participant of the run will receive a t-shirt and after race snack. Registrations made after June 14 are not guaranteed shirt size. T-shirts are only guaranteed if you pick them up at packet pick up.

Wyatt Reber and Wyatt Thomas- 2024 AMBASSADORS

Wyatt Reber - "Wyatt had his first ever ill visit on January 2nd of this year. Wyatt had experienced a few episodes of dizziness. When he woke up one morning with a headache followed by an episode of vomiting, I couldn't ignore that sinking feeling in my stomach.

We didn’t wait long. We got back to a room, talked with a nurse and doc and got a CT of Wyatt’s head. It wasn’t long before the doctor came back and asked to speak in the hall away from Wyatt. Something had to be horribly wrong—good news or no news can be shared in front of a child. The walk from his room to the quiet consultation room took an eternity. She handed me a tissue before she said it—there was a mass in our sweet boy's brain.

In that moment our entire world changed forever. Wyatt was immediately admitted to the PICU and 3 days later, on January 5th, a brilliant neurosurgeon was able to remove the tumor in its entirety. Only 4 days after that, Wyatt came home. Less than a month later he began radiation. He sailed through OT and quickly graduated from PT. He didn’t love them, but took his meds (sometimes 16 doses a day) like no 3 year old I’ve ever seen. He gets eye drops and gel and wears an eye patch a few hours every day. Through all the appointments, MRIs and surgeries, so many meds, port accesses, dressing changes, eye gel and patches, all of it—Wyatt has remained the sweetest boy. He takes his job as a big brother very seriously—you’ll be hard pressed to find a little sister as loved, protected and cared for as his. We couldn’t have be more proud to be Wyatt’s parents. We love him to the moon and back. Please pray for our boy, that this tumor never, ever returns. The world needs this future farmer firefighter!" - Wyatt Reber's Family

Wyatt Thomas - Our sweet Wyatt is a brave warrior that has had to face challenge after challenge since being diagnosed with brain cancer in July of 2023. On July 21st, four year old Wyatt was rushed to the ER at Cincinnati Children’s after complaining of a headache and nausea in the middle of the night. Our family’s worst fears were confirmed when the medical team identified a 4 cm x 4 cm tumor in the posterior fossa region of his brain.

On July 26th, Wyatt successfully underwent a 9-hour surgery to remove the tumor. It was believed for weeks that the entire tumor was removed. But on MRI imaging done 2 weeks prior to radiation, a small piece was found remaining in the brain stem. In the days following the surgery, Wyatt’s speech and motor skills were noticeably decreased. This was to be expected considering the magnitude of the surgery, and he required extensive therapies to help him regain his balance and ability to walk independently. He is doing much better in these areas today.

On August 2nd, the doctors diagnosed Wyatt's tumor as a malignant Ependymoma, a rare and aggressive tumor that originates in the Central Nervous System and affects less than 200 kids in the United States per year. Unfortunately, it’s also a cancer that has a tendency to grow back. It's also more likely to come back due to a piece being left after surgery. This is extremely scary since reoccurrence of ependymoma has no set treatment plan and chemo has so far been ineffective.

In addition to his first surgery, Wyatt had another surgery to place a permanent shunt to help with fluid drainage that contributed to him being hospitalized for 42 days. For post surgery treatment, Wyatt had 6 weeks of proton radiation. While home waiting for radiation he struggled for a long while (even some to this day) with eating because of nausea and other issues after surgery. Through it all Wyatt has shown the strength and courage he has. He is resilient and hopes for a day when there will be no more cancer in kids or adults. He has an amazing support team consisting of family, friends, community, and strangers far and wide all praying for him to be okay and kick cancers butt!! Team Wyatt is behind him all the way!

It's easy! Select "register today" from the homepage; select "4-mile run/walk" from the registration options; scroll and select "create a team" from the orange bar.

May I run with a stroller?

Strollers are permitted but we ask that all strollers start at the back of the pack to ensure the safety and enjoyment of all our participants.

May I run with my dog?

Yes, but we ask that they remain on a leash and you remain toward the back of the crowd.

I never received a confirmation email, how can I tell if I am registered?

I live in Hyde Park. Will I be able to get to my house?

Special consideration is given to all road closures so the residents have some form of accessibility to their homes. Homes along the event courses may not have direct access. These limitations are required to ensure safety for the participants.

How do I get to one of the stores in the Hyde Park Square Area?

While there will not be meter parking spots available in the square during the entire day, we do encourage you to park in one of the public lots on Edwards (behind Arthur’s and behind US Bank across from Hyde Park school). All of our friends at the Hyde Park Square Business Association will be open during the day! Please don’t forget to bring your wallets and help us support the local businesses who help us fight cancer! Representatives of the Blast will be located around the event and at detours to help direct you to a parking spot and answer any questions regarding parking for customers and event participants.
